Château Léoville Las Cases 2010 is a distinguished wine from one of Bordeaux`s most renowned Super Second Growth estates, situated in the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate is notable for its commitment to traditional winemaking, often employing techniques that have been passed down through generations. This vintage is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine undergoes fermentation in a mix of vessels and is aged for 18-20 months in new French oak, which contributes to its structured profile. Flavours of dark fruit, cedar and subtle earthy notes emerge, supported by firm tannins and balanced acidity, marking its potential for extended cellaring.
Vinous
The 2010 Léoville Las Cases has a youthful, very oaky bouquet, even after 10 years, modern in style but very pure and charming. The palate is rounded and fleshy on the entry with candied black fruit, sweet and more like a 2009 stylistically. Lovely cassis notes mixed with blueberry furnish the finish. Very seductive, although I find more nobility and classicism in other Saint-Julien’s in this flight. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

A First Class Second Growth

The illustrious 2ème Cru Classé property, Château Léoville Las Cases, has cemented its reputation as one of the most consistent producers of exceptional quality wines in the Saint Julien appellation in Bordeaux. Spanning 98ha, the estate produces its celebrated first wine - a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend - in addition to a second wine from young vines, Le Petit Lion. These stellar reds are renowned for their structure and longevity and are produced from the beating heart of the estate, on deep, well-draining gravel soils.

Two further wines are made from a separate site, situated further back from the river with more sandy-gravels: Clos de Marquis and Petite Marquise. The key varietals that make up these powerful red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
