Château Léoville Las Cases 1978 presents a mature expression of Bordeaux with a notable structure. The nose reveals earthy notes intertwined with hints of currant and cedar, accompanied by undertones of leather and graphite. Tannins exhibit a firm grip, gradually softening over time in the glass, revealing layers of plum and dark cherry. The finish features subtle traces of spice and minerality, providing balance. Léoville Las Cases has consistently been regarded as a leading estate in Saint-Julien since its formation in the 18th century, focusing on traditional viticulture.

A First Class Second Growth

The illustrious 2ème Cru Classé property, Château Léoville Las Cases, has cemented its reputation as one of the most consistent producers of exceptional quality wines in the Saint Julien appellation in Bordeaux. Spanning 98ha, the estate produces its celebrated first wine - a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend - in addition to a second wine from young vines, Le Petit Lion. These stellar reds are renowned for their structure and longevity and are produced from the beating heart of the estate, on deep, well-draining gravel soils.

Two further wines are made from a separate site, situated further back from the river with more sandy-gravels: Clos de Marquis and Petite Marquise. The key varietals that make up these powerful red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
