Château Léoville-Barton 1999 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux red wine from the esteemed Second Growth of Château Léoville-Barton in St-Julien. This quintessential claret is produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller proportions of Merlot grown on the gravelly clay soils in the east of St-Julien. The wine is typically matured in 50% new oak for 18 months. On the 1999 vintage. "Smoked earth, tobacco, drying tannins, savoury black fruits, this is classically balanced claret, understated and juicy, with effortless grip, fully in its drinking window but no need to rush, and almost certainly a vintage that will surprise with its stubborn ability to stay at exactly this drinkable, shareable point for decades to come." The 1999 Leoville Barton is deep brick in color. It sashays out with a gorgeous perfume of kirsch, dried roses, iron ore, and fragrant soil, followed by hints of cigar box, cinnamon stick, and graphite. The light-bodied palate is filled with an impressive amount of ripe black fruits and savory accents, supported by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and minerally.Lisa Perrotti-Brown20th December 2023

The 1999 Léoville Barton has a delightful bouquet that has held up much better than the 1999 Langoa Barton, brimming over with vivacious black fruit, wild strawberry and cedar; hints of tobacco emerge with time in the glass. This is classic Saint-Julien. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit laced with black olive, tar and pencil lead. Classic gentleman’s claret and drinking perfectly now, though it will give another 12 to 15 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate. Neal Martin1st September 2019

Classic Bordeaux Beyond Compare

Hailing from the appellation of Saint Julien in Bordeaux, Château Leoville Barton has been family-run since 1826 with the famous Anthony Barton raising the estate to ever greater heights in the second half of the 20th century and his daughter Lilian taking the reins in recent years.

A superb quality Second Growth, Château Leoville Barton is renowned for producing old-school wines that are intensely structured and often require extended cellaring before entering their prime drinking window. The estate also produces an excellent quality second wine, La Réserve de Barton, a red wine produced from young vines. Vineyard holdings cover 51 hectares - planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
