Le Pupille Piemme 2020 is a medium- to full-bodied white wine produced from Petit Manseng grapes in the Tuscany region of central Italy. Fattoria Le Pupille`s Piemme cuvée uses Petit Manseng grapes sourced from coastal Maremma, Tuscany. The grapes are harvested slightly later than usual to achieve greater ripeness and more pronounced aromatics. This is a medium-to-full-bodied white but thanks to Petit Manseng`s naturally high acidity the wine is beautifully balanced. Orange blossom, chamomile, dried orange skin followed by an oily texture wrapped in orange marmalade, ripe citrus fruits and honey.

A passion project that puts Petit Manseng somewhat unexpectedly on the Tuscan coast, the Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Piemme has intense aromas of sweet orchard fruit, spicy pear, butter croissant, candied pineapple and orange marmalade. The first vintage made was 2014, and I remember tasting the wine back then from a single barrel set aside at the back of the winery. Petit Manseng is a variety that produces high alcohol, and winemaking as a result must prioritize acidity, body and varietal character. This wine finishes with some caramelized aromas, but the wood used is steamed with very light toasting in order to remove any bitterness from the barrel.
