Le Pin 2014 is a distinguished Pomerol wine crafted predominantly from Merlot, with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. The nose reveals an intricate tapestry of black cherry, truffle, leather and subtle earthiness. On the palate, it exhibits a medium-bodied structure with plush tannins and a notable freshness. Flavours of ripe red fruits, hints of spice and a lingering finish characterise its profile. Le Pin is produced from a small vineyard renowned for its exceptional terroir, overseen by the Thienpont family, who have been cultivating the estate since the 1970s.

The 2014 Le Pin is deep garnet-brick in color. Notes of cedar chest and dried roses slowly emerge from the glass, leading to a core of dried raspberries, kirsch, and fruitcake plus a waft of truffle. The medium-bodied palate is an exercise in elegance, with silky tannins and beautifully knit freshness supporting the delicately nuanced flavors, finishing long and fragrant.Lisa Perrotti-Brown5th March 2024

The 2014 Le Pin has held on to its outgoing and potent bouquet with red plummy fruit, shavings of black truffle and sous-bois. Curiously, it has an almost Burgundian-like allure. Wonderful definition, however. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins, a mouth-filling Pomerol that doesn't fully deliver the complexity and nuance of other vintages, notwithstanding a bit of dryness right on the finish. A fine Pomerol, one I would drink over the next 15 years, but other vintages will outlast it. Interestingly, the bottle served blind at Southwold showed better. Neal Martin19th March 2024

Tasted blind. Well-shaded colour. Very complex, rich nose that is thoroughly hedonistic. Great presence in the mouth. Lots of edginess and interest. Long. Like fermented spicy, sweet biscuits. Really interesting and alive. Round. (JR)

A Mould-Breaking Pomerol

Le Pin is one of the newer names of Bordeaux having only made its debut in 1979. The estate takes its name from the pine trees that first stood outside the winery. Situated on Bordeaux's Right Bank, in the prestigious appellation of Pomerol. Production is truly miniscule by Bordeaux standards and Le Pin is thus one of the most highly sought-after wines in the world.

The estate unveiled a state-of-the-art new winery in 2012 and produces superb red wines from 100% Merlot vines that are an average of 40 years old. Beautifully opulent wines, with a seductive, velvety texture and floral complexity. Organic practices are adopted in the vineyard and wines can be aged for up to 22 months in new oak.
