Le Petit Cheval Blanc is a relatively new white wine produced by Château Cheval Blanc, one of the finest Bordeaux producers. The first vintage of Le Petit Cheval Blanc was produced in 2014, marking the beginning of this exciting addition to Château Cheval Blanc`s portfolio. Bottled in May 2022, the 2020 vintage is a blend of 82% Sauvignon Blanc and 18% Sémillon, aged for 18 months. Expect a vibrant and fresh expression, with a relatively strong acidity and wonderful salinity. A very nice balance for a wine that is already accessible, from its youngest age.

The 2020 Le Petit Cheval (Blanc) has a well-defined and quite floral bouquet with yellow fruit, beeswax and orange blossom, developing more complexity in the glass as it aerates. The palate is well balanced with a smooth entry and fine delineation, quite cohesive with an underrated and persistent finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin12th November 2024

The Star of Saint-Émilion

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
