Le Petit Cheval Blanc 2015 is a dry white wine from Château Cheval Blanc, located in the Saint-Émilion appellation. This vintage is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon sourced from a small, dedicated plot within the estate. The 2015 growing season provided ideal conditions, resulting in concentrated, flavourful grapes. The wine reveals aromas of gooseberry, citrus and delicate floral notes, complemented by the influence of new oak. On the palate, it is structured and creamy, with an acidity that enhances its length.

100% Sauvignon Blanc. Yield 27 hl/ha. 6,000 vines/ha. Harvested 14 September to 2 October. Aged in 600-litre French oak barriques for 15-18 months, 50% new and 50% second fill. Second vintage. There’s more of a spicy nose than on their 2014, with sweet creaminess and a riper fruit character. The structure is a magic trick – no heat at all on the finish, with a perfectly clean and refreshing crispness. The texture has definite thickness, but there is no sacrifice to the subtlety of the flavour. It may not age quite so well as the 2015, but it is delicious to drink now. (RH)

The Star of Saint-Émilion

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
