Cheval Blanc`s second label is reserved for fruit that doesn`t meet the exacting standards required for their flagship wine, yet still maintains a high level of quality. Not produced annually, as every plot of Cheval Blanc holds potential for their Grand Vin, the 2021 vintage of Le Petit Cheval is a skilful blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, black cherries, redcurrants, and mulberries are complemented by hints of cedar and earth. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and refreshing, with powdery tannins and a sprinkle of baking spices.

The 2021 Le Petit Cheval is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel. Soft, silky and exceptionally balanced, the 2021 is all class. Dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, smoke and grilled herbs abound. The blend is 60% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc, with the Cabernet Sauvignon quite evident. That makes the 2021 a pretty unique wine, especially in its tannin profile. The spent 18 months in once-used barrels. Antonio Galloni27th February 2024

The Star of Saint-Émilion

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
