Le Difese Tenuta San Guido 2015 is the third wine of the Sassicaia estate, primarily a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The 2015 vintage in Tuscany was warm and generous, providing a ripe foundation. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, displaying soft, immediate tannins and an integrated structure that balances Tuscan freshness with Bordeaux polish.

The 2015 Le Difese is bright, gracious and nicely lifted, with a good bit of aromatic kick and lift from both the Sangiovese and the decision to pick the Cabernets on the early side. Fresh and aromatically expressive, the 2015 is very pretty. Sweet floral and berry fruit flavors abound in this refreshing, mid-weight Tuscan red from Tenuta San Guido. A dollop of Cabernet Franc adds perfume.Antonio Galloni1st April 2018

The 2015 Le Difese (Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese) offers a smooth and symmetrical interpretation of the vintage with bright fruit flavors of forest berry and wild cherry backed by mild spice and grilled herb. This is an informal and moderately concentrated effort that sports fresh appeal and good acidity. It would make a great pairing partner to a hearty home-cooked pasta dish.Monica Larner28th April 2017

Tenuta San Guido

The Original Super Tuscan

Tenuta San Guido’s flagship red wine, Sassicaia wine, has become a Tuscan icon in its own right. This fine wine, made from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, is characterized by all the hallmarks that have established it as one of Italy’s standout wines: sumptuous fruit, fine texture, beautiful perfume, and effortless balance. A prototype of Super Tuscan wines, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta decided to experiment with Bordeaux varietals, noting a similarity between the geography of Tuscany and Graves in southwest France.

Early vintages of this iconic Italian wine were only available to taste at the winery. The 1968 vintage was the first Sassicaia wine to be sold to the public, and in 1994, Sassicaia was granted its own official DOC: Bolgheri-Sassicaia DOC. Early vintages received mixed reviews, but the introduction of Tronçais oak barriques in the late 1970s saw a rise in quality that has been maintained ever since. Alongside the Grand Vin, the Tenuta San Guido estate produces a second wine, Guidalberto, and a third wine, La Difese.

Sassicaia's impact on the wine world is profound, exemplifying the fine elegance of Tuscan wine. With a dedication to quality and tradition, Tenuta San Guido continues to set the benchmark for fine wines globally.
