Le Carré 2011 is a single-vineyard red wine from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation of Bordeaux. Produced by Jonathan Maltus, this wine is sourced from a tiny parcel of old vines located on the limestone plateau, very close to Château Clos Fourtet. The 2011 vintage produced wines with a fresh fruit profile and a refined tannic structure, and this Merlot-dominant blend offers notes of black cherries, plums and crushed stones. It is matured in 100% new French oak, which is expertly integrated to provide a spicy complexity and a velvety texture.

Dark ruby. Inky aromas of black cherry, violet, tobacco leaf and bitter chocolate. Juicy, bright and firmly built, with primary blackberry flavors currently overpowered by oak tannins. Presently very tightly wound, finishing with noteworthy alcoholic heat and tongue-drying tannins that arrive late. I wonder if there's enough flesh here.Ian d'Agata1st July 2014
