Château Le Boscq is a Cru Bourgeois estate situated in Saint-Estèphe and is part of the excellent portfolio of wines produced by the Dourthe group. From the excellent 2016 vintage, this release is composed of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. It has all the hallmarks of this highly lauded year with an abundance of intense fruits, high-toned aromatics, smooth tannins and effortless freshness. This should be superb to drink with a few extra years cellaring and should continue to evolve nicely over the next 10-20 years.

Again you see the step up between vintages - the 2014 of this wine was good quality but here you have greater depth of expression, blackberry fruits laced with mint leaf and bitter dark cocoa. Tight on the finish, tannins still fairly fierce even with four hours opening (no carafe). Character, personalty and punch. The first bottle of the 2016 Le Boscq was corked. The second has a detailed, precise bouquet of brambly red fruit, cedar and light loamy aromas. The palate is clean and fresh, offering fine tannins, well-judged acidity and a slightly grainy texture, but displaying admirable precision and mineralité on the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Neal Martin1st August 2020

Tasted blind. First bottle TCA. Second bottle: Clean and lively on the nose. Very brisk and neat even if not concentrated. Minerally. (JR)Jancis Robinson23rd January 2020
