Hailing from the Cotes de Nuits, here is a wonderful Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy. The 2001 vintage is packed with rich, dark fruit, together with tea leaf and gentle spice complexity. A powerful wine, with a long, evolving finish.
93 Vinous
Ruby-red. Explosive, slightly liqueur-like aromas of strawberry, cherry, redcurrant, minerals, underbrush and earth. Dense but youthfully reserved, with fresh flavors of strawberry, currant and earth and a slightly aggressive oak element. Currently shows a bit less fruit intensity and a slightly less primary character than the Clos de la Roche. Finishes with notes of strawberry, earth and spice but a tad less sweetness and distinction than the Clos de la Roche.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2003

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
