A 1986 vintage from the esteemed Château Latour, this Magnum red wine hails from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux. As a First Growth estate, Château Latour is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blends, and the 1986 vintage is no exception, showcasing the variety`s robust tannins. The wine has reached an alcohol level of 12.5%. Over decades, it has evolved in this larger format, unveiling a complex profile of blackcurrant, leather, and graphite. Its impressive structure reflects the vineyard`s gravelly Enclos, delivering an iron-like mineral backbone. The 1986 Latour illustrates the estate`s commitment to precision, embodying the depth and longevity characteristic of its storied reputation.

It is many years since I tasted the 1979 Château Margaux, so long that it simply possesses the far-off afterglow of what was a lovely wine. Now? It has a slightly deeper hue than I recall. The nose is a little frayed at the edges, but it coheres with a couple of hours of decanting, vestiges of brambly red fruit, old school desk, cedar and pressed rose aromas. The palate has probably lost some cohesion in recent years, though a core of red fruit commingles with cedar, mint and tobacco notes. Judging by this bottle, it is a Margaux that ought to be drunk sooner rather than later, though it still stands up in the context of a mediocre growing season. A Towering First Growth
Situated on the Bordeaux's Left Bank in the appellation of Pauillac, this superb First Growth is produced from the estate's 92ha of vines, spread across 138 plots, (47 hectares of which are located in renowned 'L'Enclos'). The clay and gravel soils give superbly concentrated, textural Cabernet Sauvignon dominant reds, with Merlot and smaller percentages of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the blend.
The estate also produces two further celebrated reds, Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour. Certified organic since 2018, biodynamic techniques are also used in the vineyard.
