Latour à Pomerol 1996 is a medium-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Château Latour à Pomerol is one of the finest properties in Pomerol which is managed by Jean-Pierre Moueix of Pétrus and Trotanoy fame. The estate`s vineyard is planted to 100% Merlot and is marked by the diversity of its soils, which brings complexity and balance to the wine.

The 1996 Latour-à-Pomerol has an intriguing fish oil-tinged bouquet that detracts from its terroir expression. It later develops a peaty aroma that threatens to dominate the modest black fruit tones. Like many Right Bank 1996s, the palate is medium-bodied and a tad austere, not a million miles away from Petrus. Saline toward the attenuating finish, it is a mediocre Latour-à-Pomerol and nothing more. Tasted at the Latour à Pomerol dinner at Taillevent in London.Neal Martin25th March 2025
