The 2005 vintage was widely hailed as exceptional, with very dry, warm and sunny conditions resulting in wines of formidable concentration, complexity and structure. True to form, Château Latour has produced a superlative release that could contest for one of the top wines of the vintage. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance of Merlot and Petit Verdot, it is full-bodied, powerful and incredibly deep, offering classical notes of cassis, black cherry, truffle, spring flowers and graphite. Now just about sneaking into its drinking window, decanting is highly recommended.

The 2005 Latour has an absolutely stunning bouquet that rivets you to the spot, with brilliant delineation and concentration and layers of black fruit, tar, graphite and light floral scents. Quintessential Latour firing on all cylinders. The palate is classic in style with a grainy texture, showstopping salinity and immense tension. You can almost picture the Gironde Estuary in your mind as you taste this. This is more backward than its peers, including the other First Growths, which I would expect. Nevertheless, it is a multifaceted, long-term Latour for those with patience. Tasted at the château. Neal Martin17th June 2025

Today owned by Artemis Domaines, back in 1855 Latour was in the hands of the de Beaumont family, descendants of the historic de Ségur family. It had also already become one of the first estates in Bordeaux to incorporate as a business, forming the Société Civile de Château Latour in 1842. It was undisputedly among the top wines of the region back then, and it continues to be now, proof of the magical combination and location, soils, investment and skill. This remains muscular, just starting to soften and open, slowing layers and waves of cocoa bean, blackberry, cassis, liquorice root, crayon, cigar box and truffle. 100% new oak for ageing.Jane Anson1st June 2025
19.5 Jancis Robinson
Excellent depth of colour. Very intense and spicy. Intriguing – this is a wine that drags you in to the glass! Full, ample, wonderful grand spread across the palate. Such magnificence – rides over the palate. All lovely fine tannins and subtlety. No obvious alcohol – dense but not tricksy. Yet there is the squareness and rigour of Latour. Just 13.35 per cent alcohol. Deliberate choice not to go for monstrous alcohol. Very intense and extremely fine. Intense and funnily enough it reminds me a bit of Ausone. The focus of it… The density of it…. Smoky character – a bit of woodsmoke. Very dry tannins but not drying on the finish. Cool, restrained, less aromatic than the Margaux. But very solid. This wine may still be motoring along after the Margaux. Very mineral. Structured like 2004 but with more flesh. (JR)

A Towering First Growth
Situated on the Bordeaux's Left Bank in the appellation of Pauillac, this superb First Growth is produced from the estate's 92ha of vines, spread across 138 plots, (47 hectares of which are located in renowned 'L'Enclos'). The clay and gravel soils give superbly concentrated, textural Cabernet Sauvignon dominant reds, with Merlot and smaller percentages of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the blend.
The estate also produces two further celebrated reds, Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour. Certified organic since 2018, biodynamic techniques are also used in the vineyard.
