Château Latour stands as one of the foremost estates in Bordeaux and a global icon for exceptional wines. Together with Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild, Latour forms the trio of First Growths in the Pauillac appellation. This particular offering comes from the 1986 vintage, a year celebrated for its enduring qualities. Harvesting commenced on September 26th, yielding generously, particularly on the Left Bank, where the finest wines were produced.

Vinous
Though I have not been a huge fan of the 1986 Latour, this is undoubtedly the best bottle I have encountered. Deep and youthful, it offers black fruit and a strong stony/dusty element that clarifies with aeration, though it remains slightly disjointed. The palate is medium-bodied and solid with its gritty tannin. Firm with a pronounced backbone, it has more cohesion and complexity on the finish compared to previous bottles, though never quite musters enough flair to match expectations. Tasted at the private room at Noble Rot Soho.

A Towering First Growth
Situated on the Bordeaux's Left Bank in the appellation of Pauillac, this superb First Growth is produced from the estate's 92ha of vines, spread across 138 plots, (47 hectares of which are located in renowned 'L'Enclos'). The clay and gravel soils give superbly concentrated, textural Cabernet Sauvignon dominant reds, with Merlot and smaller percentages of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the blend.
The estate also produces two further celebrated reds, Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour. Certified organic since 2018, biodynamic techniques are also used in the vineyard.
