Château Latour is one of the oldest wine properties in the appellation of Pauillac and has a history dating back to the 14th century. Since 1993 the First Growth estate has been part of Artémis Domaines, which portfolio also includes Clos de Tart and Château Grillet The 1970 vintage has an intense nose, combining black cherries, cassis, roasted coffee beans, rose petals, sandalwood and crushed rocks. The palate is refined and beautifully mature, featuring notes of blood orange and cherries, delivered in a seamless velvety texture.

I have consumed over a case of this wine, and consistently rated it in the mid to upper-nineties. The three bottles from the Chateau's cellars were variable, but seemed surprisingly herbal, with notes of soy, cedar, roasted vegetables, leather, and earth dominating the wine's fruit. Tasty, elegant, medium-bodied, and fully mature, the 1970 is excellent, but not inspirational.
A bottle from my cellar drunk in late December, 1999, was rated 97.
It appeared to have at least two decades of life remaining. Readers who purchase old vintages of great wines, regardless of whether they are Bordeaux, Burgundy, and California Cabernet, need to remember the expression, "there are no great wines, just great bottles," particularly after a wine reaches 30 years of age.Robert Parker26th June 2000

A Towering First Growth
Situated on the Bordeaux's Left Bank in the appellation of Pauillac, this superb First Growth is produced from the estate's 92ha of vines, spread across 138 plots, (47 hectares of which are located in renowned 'L'Enclos'). The clay and gravel soils give superbly concentrated, textural Cabernet Sauvignon dominant reds, with Merlot and smaller percentages of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the blend.
The estate also produces two further celebrated reds, Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour. Certified organic since 2018, biodynamic techniques are also used in the vineyard.
