Owned by the Beaumartin family since 1935, Château Laroque stands as one of the largest estates in Saint-Émilion, encompassing around 61 hectares of vineyards. This offering represents the Grand Vin of the estate`s 2020 vintage, meticulously crafted from a blend of 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The grapes underwent plot-by-plot vinification in small concrete vats, employing gentle punch-downs and pump-overs for a seamless extraction. The Château Laroque 2020 entices with its captivating bouquet of floral and spicy aromas, refreshing salinity, and a velvety smooth texture.
97 Jane Anson
A blend of 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Laroque is deep garnet-purple in color. A little subdued to begin, offering subtle notes of crushed rocks and damp soil, it opens out to a core of ripe black and red plums and fresh blackberries, plus a fragrant waft of lilacs. The full-bodied palate is bursting with taut, muscular black fruits and amazing tension, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, and finishing with great length and depth.Lisa Perrotti-Brown12th March 2023

The 2020 Laroque has a ripe, opulent nose with blackberry, raspberry coulis, wild hedgerow and a subtle touch of mint. The oak is nicely integrated, but it loses some vitality in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, saturated and pliant tannins. It has fine weight, with just a smidgen of welcome bitterness that imparts tension on the finish. This is very promising and astutely made, though this showing suggests it may have begun closing down. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin12th November 2024
