Château Larcis-Ducasse is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B wine producer based in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The vines are on average 35 years old and planted on diverse soil types, from alluvial sand deposits to limestone, clay and chalk. This release is the 2019 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend composed of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc. It’s a full-bodied wine, with gentle acidity and polished tannins, marked by savoury notes and earthy undertones.

The 2019 Larcis-Ducasse is classically-styled on the nose with tobacco and cedar infusing the black fruit, a little austere at first, yet there is a sense of stature. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, slightly candied in style but there is commendable structure behind this Saint-Émilion with a dash of black pepper on the finish. Exquisite. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023
