The Château Langoa Barton 2005 presents a rich aromatic profile, featuring notes of blackcurrant, plum and subtle hints of graphite and leather. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine reveals structured tannins which provide a firm backbone. The acidity lends a sense of freshness, while the finish is marked by a steady persistence. Langoa Barton, a historic estate established in 1821, is known for its meticulous vinification process and commitment to producing wines of authenticity. This vintage shows potential for further evolution, suggesting cellaring could benefit its development.

The 2005 Langoa Barton takes time to cohere in the glass, but eventually black cherries, black plum and a touch of mint develop. The palate is medium-bodied with just a little rusticity on the entry, dense tannins and fine acidity. The 2005 is a little muscular in style but nicely poised, with a slightly medicinal finish (a common theme of this vintage now that it is reaching age 20.) Tasted at the château. Château Langoa-Barton is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé estate situated in Saint-Julien and is well-known for producing incredibly traditional and formidably tannic wines. The château has been in the Barton family for eight generations, a sister estate to the famous Léoville Barton.

The 20 hectares of vineyard are planted on classic gravel / clay soils and plantings are split between Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (21%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The wine is aged for around 18 months in 50% new oak using example the same techniques employed at Leoville Barton.
