Château Langoa Barton 2011 is a Third Growth Saint-Julien produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In this half-bottle format, the wine has matured at a faster rate than in larger formats and now shows a complex profile of dried fruit, cedar and leather. It retains a firm tannic structure and a core of redcurrant fruit that provides a sense of freshness on the palate.

The 2011 Langoa-Barton has an open nose, well defined, a little lean at first though it gains more fruit intensity with aeration. Quite conservative compared to its peers though. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little oaky perhaps, decent depth with a touch of black pepper and tobacco. What is missing is just some elegance and tension on the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.Neal Martin1st April 2022

Aromatic dark fruit and cassis, very inviting, on the leafy side. Some sweet chocolate tones on the palate. Polished, deft tannins, moreish juicy finish. (JH)

Château Langoa-Barton is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé estate situated in Saint-Julien and is well-known for producing incredibly traditional and formidably tannic wines. The château has been in the Barton family for eight generations, a sister estate to the famous Léoville Barton.

The 20 hectares of vineyard are planted on classic gravel / clay soils and plantings are split between Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (21%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The wine is aged for around 18 months in 50% new oak using example the same techniques employed at Leoville Barton.
