Château Langoa-Barton is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé estate situated in Saint-Julien and is well-known for producing incredibly traditional and somewhat old-school wines. 2006 is a seriously underrated Bordeaux vintage and, unusually, offers a slightly earlier drinking option for a wine that is often exceptionally tannic. It is medium-bodied, supple and ripe, with lovely notes of dark fruits, exotic spices, liquorice and earth.

Bright red-ruby. Currant, black cherry, licorice, tar and minerals on the nose. Juicy, tightly wound and penetrating, with very good intensity but a distinct austerity to the medicinal dark fruit and mineral flavors. Brisk and delineated wine, finishing with firm, building tannins that call for five or six years of patience.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2009

Very dark crimson. Fresh glossy black cherry aromas. Very well balanced and gracious on the front palate with a nice fragrant dry, racy style. This could easily be Langoa [as indeed it was – I do try not to guess when tasting but this just swamped me with identity]. Very dry finish but not drying. Lift and grace. Just falls away very slightly on the finish. Bone dry – no tarty sweetness. (JR)

Château Langoa-Barton is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé estate situated in Saint-Julien and is well-known for producing incredibly traditional and formidably tannic wines. The château has been in the Barton family for eight generations, a sister estate to the famous Léoville Barton.

The 20 hectares of vineyard are planted on classic gravel / clay soils and plantings are split between Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (21%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The wine is aged for around 18 months in 50% new oak using example the same techniques employed at Leoville Barton.
