Lamothe Bergeron 2016 is a red Bordeaux from the Haut-Médoc appellation, a classic Cru Bourgeois Supérieur from a widely lauded vintage. The blend is predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from a terroir of Garonne gravel and deep clay. The 2016 vintage was noted for its ideal conditions, producing wines with freshness, elegance and concentration. This bottling presents a classic bouquet of ripe black cherry, cassis and tobacco leaf, with a hint of roasted coffee. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, framed by fine, supple tannins and a savoury acidity that culminates in a long, fresh finish.

The 2016 Chateau Lamothe-Bergeron has impressive freshness and vitality on the nose. bouyant black fruit mixed with tobacco and graphite. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, harmonious in the mouth with good depth, a lot of new oak on the finish but that should be subsumed by the time this is in bottle. There is potential here. - Neal Martin

The 2016 Lamothe-Bergeron is savory, expressive and wonderfully nuanced. Grilled herb, smoke, leather, tobacco, game, plum and cedar give this Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois tons of character. Delicate and understated in the glass, the 2016 will drink well over the next handful of years, maybe more. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Antonio Galloni1st January 2019
