Château Lagrange, also known as Lagrange à Pomerol, is a esteemed Bordeaux producer under the ownership of the Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix company. The estate encompasses approximately nine hectares of vineyards, spread across multiple plots on the Pomerol plateau. Lagrange à Pomerol does not have its own winery; instead, the winemaking process takes place at Château Trotanoy, another prominent estate within the Moueix portfolio. The 1990 vintage stands out as an exceptional year for Bordeaux. Characterized by a hot summer, the harvest officially commenced on September 10th, yielding ample volumes of wine.

The 1990 Lagrange, an ex-château bottle, is one of the best examples that I have encountered. It has a deep nose with red berry fruit, leather, a touch of black truffle shavings and less of the gravel that I noted six years ago. The palate is medium-bodied with an enticing menthol element and hints of spicebox infusing the layered red fruit, with aniseed and sous-bois notes flourishing with time in the glass. What a lovely Saint-Julien! Tasted single blind at the 1990 Bordeaux dinner at Medlar. Neal Martin2nd December 2025
