Lagrange 1988 is a Third Growth Bordeaux from the Saint-Julien appellation. This vintage predominantly features Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The 1988 vintage showcases mature characteristics, presenting aromas of leather, tobacco and dark fruits, along with earthy undertones. On the palate, it offers a medium-bodied structure with soft tannins, suggesting that careful decanting will enhance the drinking experience.
87 Vinous
The 1988 Lagrange was picked from 3 to 19 October. The bouquet is expressive and very attractive with red berry fruit, iron, pressed flowers and sandalwood aromas. This still seems vigorous. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. The acidity keeps this well balanced and lends real freshness, good grip even if there is some dryness creeping in towards the finish. As such, I would drink bottles in the near future. Tasted at the Lagrange vertical at the estate. Neal Martin1st December 2020
86 Robert Parker
The 1988 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, and a closed but spicy, reticent bouquet vaguely suggestive of cedar, plums, and green olives. This medium-bodied, surprisingly hard and tannic wine will need 4-6 years of bottle age to soften. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
