Château Lafite Rothschild 2015 is a distinguished Premier Grand Cru Classé estate located in Pauillac, Bordeaux, owned by the Rothschild family since 1868. This vintage typically includes a dominant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and Petit Verdot, all cultivated in deep gravel soils. The winemaking process features careful hand-harvesting and sorting, followed by fermentation in a variety of vessels, including wooden and stainless steel. The wine matures for 18-20 months in new French oak barrels, contributing to its complex aromatics of blackcurrant, herbal notes, and subtle cedar. The structure allows for significant ageing potential, showcasing the estate`s commitment to quality and tradition.

A softly fragrant Lafite that is delicate and finessed, hiding its concentration under a slow build through the palate. Fragrant, lace like tannins, cassis, bilberry, crayon, cigar box, showcases the way to weave through this ripe vintage while holding on to signature nuance. This is a Lafite that will grow into gulpable drinkability with another decade in bottle, and is already gorgeous, pure estate signature. If you are looking for a 2015 that is exuberant and overripe, look elsewhere.Jane Anson19th February 2025

The deep garnet-purple shaded 2015 Lafite Rothschild is blended of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot and was matured for 20 months in new oak barrels from Tonnellerie des Domaines (their own cooperage). It is still sporting a lot of cedar at this nascent stage with a vibrant core of black raspberries, red currants and crushed plums plus touches of cigar boxes, violets and underbrush with a waft of tilled loam. Medium-bodied and elegantly styled with wonderful freshness and depth, it is compellingly earthy/minerally in the mouth with a frame of seductively silky yet very firm tannins and culminating in a very long, racy and pure finish. Boasting spectacular finesse and packed with nuances, clearly, given some of the challenges here in 2015, this is a masterpiece of diligence in the vineyards, careful selection and very clever crafting—bravo! - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2015 Lafite-Rothschild is slightly higher in tone than the Mouton-Rothschild on the nose, with scents of blackberry, iodine, cedar and crushed violet emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, with plush tannins, a keen line of acidity, impressive grip and precision on the finish. This has gained complexity in recent years, hence my slightly higher score. Tasted at the 2015 Ten-Year-On tasting at Bordeaux Index and blind at Farr Vintners with consistent notes. 91% Cabernet Sauvignon picked 23 September to 6 October; 9% Merlot picked 17-23 September. Lustrous mid crimson. Lightly spicy nose and very smooth tannins in the Lafite style. Only just enough acidity. Blurry impression. Mild and charming – very restrained and Lafite. It builds on the end in an impressive manner. (JR)
