The 1993 Château Lafite Rothschild is a precise expression of a First Growth Pauillac, marked by the challenges of the 1993 Bordeaux vintage. A season that oscillated between favourable weather and rainfall ultimately benefitted from the return of sunshine during harvest, enabling a decent extraction of tannins. This vintage presents a restrained profile, offering notes of blackcurrant, tobacco and graphite, underpinned by a firm structure. The wine reflects typical Lafite restraint, showcasing a more austere character in comparison with its more opulent contemporaries.

The 1993 Lafite-Rothschild has been a rather vexing wine in recent tastings. This time is no different. Like before and typical of the vintage, it feels austere and dry on the nose and you yearn for more fruit. The palate is redeemed by a fine bead of acidity but otherwise this is an atypically brutish Lafite-Rothschild, age having done it few favours. Tasted blind at a private dinner in Hong Kong. An Iconic First Growth

A highly-coveted First Growth from Pauillac, the estate boasts a fascinating history that can be traced back as far as 1234. Spanning 110 hectares, Château Lafite Rothschild produces a legendary first wine, Lafite Rothschild, showcasing beautiful aromatics and an extraordinary capacity to age; a superb second wine, Carruades de Lafite, and Légende de Pauillac.

Located at the northerly boundary of Pauillac, adjacent to Saint-Estèphe, the Château vineyards are broadly split into two parcels - one which supplies the bulk of the grapes for the Grand Vin and a second parcel that is used to produce Carruades de Lafite. Vineyard plantings are around 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
