Lafaurie Peyraguey 1997 presents a bright golden hue indicative of its age. On the nose, it offers aromas of ripe apricot, honey, and caramel, intertwined with subtle notes of citrus zest and a hint of botrytis. The palate is rich and viscous, showcasing flavours of peach and crème brûlée, balanced by a refreshing acidity that carries through.

This wine originates from one of the prestigious Sauternes estates, known for its distinct terroir and meticulous vinification process. Lafaurie Peyraguey excels in crafting sweet wines, primarily from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes, often affected by noble rot, which enhances the complexity. The 1997 vintage is recognized for its balanced structure and longevity, making it a compelling choice for dessert pairings or enjoying on its own.

The 1997 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has been a consistent performer over the years. Dried honey, lanolin, beeswax and hints of quince are all delivered with energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied, offering a viscous texture and ample honeyed fruit laced with orange pith and Seville orange marmalade. What struck me with this bottle is the acidity and race toward the finish. A Sauternes with more bite than I remember, hence my higher score. This comes highly recommended. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at home. Neal Martin1st August 2019
