Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey 1989 presents a clear golden hue, indicative of its age. The nose reveals notes of stone fruit, particularly apricot, alongside subtle oak nuances and hints of honey. A touch of minerality underlies the aromas, providing depth. On the palate, the wine offers a balanced acidity, with flavours of peach and preserved citrus, leading to a finish that showcases some herbal qualities. This estate, established in 1840, holds a strong reputation for producing elegant Sauternes. The 1989 vintage exemplifies their commitment to craftsmanship.

Vinous
The 1989 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is probably the best vintage of the decade. Lucid in color, the extremely pure bouquets features scents of candle wax, crème brûlée and linseed oil. It delivers real intensity without dispensing any precision. The palate has a deftly controlled, quite spicy entry, much more pure than the 1986 and laden with viscous, honeyed fruit counterbalanced by an edgy bitter lemon note. There is a sense of completeness and harmony to this superb Sauternes, which will give another three decades of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at a private dinner in Bordeaux.
