With a rich heritage that goes back to the 16th century, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti needs no introduction. The estate is co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy families, with Alexandre Bernier in place as head winemaker following the retirement of Bernard Noblet in 2018. La Tâche is one of their monopoles since 1933 and its wine is regarded as one of the finest expressions of the Pinot Noir variety. The 1996 vintage is a stunning wine, with layers of red and black cherry, well-integrated stem spice, black tea leaves and baking spices. The palate is rich and generous, with no hard edges.

Vinous
- Brilliant ruby-red. Ineffable liqueur-like perfume combines blackberry, black raspberry, cassis, truffle and tar. Fat, sweet and dense but quite closed in the mouth; not yet showing La Tache's typical licorice component. But a complete wine with superb structure and a very, very long and subtle aftertaste that builds slowly and saturates the olfactories.
