DRC La Tâche 1985 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of La Tâche in the Vosne-Romanée commune of the Côte de Nuits. With a rich heritage that goes back to the 16th century, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti needs no introduction. The estate, which is co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy families, is the largest proprietor of grand cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. The Domaine has always cultivated its vines according to the principles of biodynamics and in 2017 obtained the Biodyvin certification. La Tâche is one of their monopoles since 1933 and its wine is considered one of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir. "The richness and intensity of the flavours marries nicely with the 1985 La Tâche. Now fully mature and quite pretty, the 1985 is peaking and not likely to improve from here. Exotic spice, dried herbs, rose petal and mint are all laced into the subtle finish." Vinous, 2016

I have had the good fortune of tasting the 1985 La Tâche Grand Cru a number of times over the years. This is an especially fine bottle. Intensely aromatic, the 1985 shows the gentle patina of age in its gracious, mid-weight personality and understated depth. Dried herbs, spice, rosemary, mint and coffee all lift from the glass, playing off of a core of black cherry/plum fruit effortlessly. The edges are starting to fray a bit, so I would not push my luck on cellaring the 1985 too much further. This is about as good as it gets for the 1985.
