La Tâche DRC 1969 is a renowned Grand Cru Monopole from the Vosne-Romanée region of Burgundy. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) holds exclusive rights to the entire La Tâche vineyard, which covers about 6.06 hectares located on the Côte d’Or’s mid-slope. This vintage was characterized by a generally favourable growing season, contributing to wines of fine structure. The 1969 La Tâche displays complexity, with notes of earth, mature red fruits and hints of spice. It shows a refined texture synonymous with DRC`s meticulous vineyard practices and legendary heritage.

The 1969 La Tâche Grand Cru is not the best bottle that I have tasted although, frankly, it is not dissimilar to the previous example in 2015. Deep in colour, it has an almost brackish nose with dried blood, a subtle Bovril note. I find less elegance here than the last bottle. The palate is rustic and rough hewn, a little tough for a La Tâche, perhaps a wine that is now past its peak. It is certainly no match for the superior 1971 Richebourg tasted alongside. Tasted at the Romanée-Conti dinner at the Connaught Hotel. Neal Martin1st April 2019
