La Réserve du Général 1989 is the second wine of Château Palmer, a Third Growth estate located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. This vintage showcases a blend that expresses the unique terroir of the region. The wine exhibits notes of dark fruits, with hints of tobacco and earth, characteristic of the estate’s mainly Merlot blend. Château Palmer, noted for its distinctive approach and higher percentage of Merlot, has a history dating back to the early 18th century.

Classic, Concentrated Margaux

Château Palmer is a 3ème Cru Classé property and is one of the most celebrated estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing rich and opulent wines with exceptional longevity. The 55 hectare estate is characterised by its mixture of fine and sandy gravels, together with clay soils. The key grape varieties are old vine Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all farmed biodynamically, resulting in superbly elegant, velvety wines with a wonderful capacity to age and evolve in bottle.

In addition to the first wine, Château Palmer, the estate produces a second red from specific plots, Alter Ego de Palmer. Created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the Grand Vin, the Alter Ego is supple, rounded and more approachable in youth.
