La Petite Eglise is the second wine of Château l`Eglise-Clinet, the family estate of the late, great Denis Durantou and one of Pomerol`s finest small estates, made from 100% Merlot with a softer, earlier-drinking style than the grand vin. The 2010 vintage was outstanding across Pomerol, giving ripe, generous fruit. dark plum, chocolate and liquorice on the nose, with a smooth, rounded palate and moderate tannins. Approachable now but with several more years ahead of it, this is a well-priced way into serious Pomerol character. Pairs well with duck or beef.

(100% merlot) Ruby-red. P erfumed aromas of blackcurrant, plum, mocha, plus a suggestion of graphite. Supple, suave and quite dry; in a distinctly restrained style, with musky oak and mineral elements currently dominating primary red fruit flavors. Finishes smooth and long, but I would have liked a bit more clarity and lift.Ian d'Agata1st May 2011

Very difficult to present wines ready to drink. Very dark. The Merlot picked after that for Église Clinet. Post rain? Been in barrel for two to three months. Quite edgy and awkward. So young! Not that intense but too early to taste. Slightly tough on the end. (JR)
