Château La Lagune 2005 is a full-bodied red wine from a distinguished Third Growth estate located in the Haut-Médoc appellation. A product of the Frey family`s stewardship since 1999, it showcases the estate`s commitment to honing quality in Haut-Médoc. This wine presents a complex blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, offering aromas of ripe blackcurrants, subtle cedar and a hint of graphite. The palate is full-bodied, with structured tannins and a defined minerality, reflecting the terroir`s characteristics. While it is approachable now, it possesses the capacity to evolve over the next decade, revealing further nuance and depth as it ages.

Heading to tertiary in colour, gentle bricking around the edges, this is rich and complex on the nose, real depth of fruit, a ton of mint and eucalpytus, bitter chocolate and black pepper on the finish. Still plenty of structure at 17 years old, with the tannins now silky in texture. Definitely in its drinking window, but no need to rush, has a few more years of stretching out before it is fully at its peak. Has the energy that you find in the great wines of the vintage, and a ton of character. Impressive, one of the value 2005s to look out for.Jane Anson14th September 2022

The 2005 La Lagune has an attractive bouquet with plenty of blackberry, raspberry, minerals and dried flowers, the oak neatly integrated. This blossoms nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, just a little chewiness on the front end but considerable weight and concentration at the back. Like many 2005s there is a solid backbone to this wine, to wit, a La Lagune built for long-term ageing. There is firm grip on the finish and as such it needs another two or three years in bottle. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château. Neal Martin1st April 2018
