Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a Pomerol estate that has been owned by the négociant house Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1952. Its main vineyard is located across the road from Château Pétrus and adjacent to Château Lafleur in the eastern quadrant of the Pomerol appellation. The 2019 vintage is made from 94% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, aged in 50% new French oak. It is a full-bodied and enveloping wine, offering notes of plum preserve, Morello cherries, cocoa beans, truffles and mint leaves. Best enjoyed after 2028.

Steps everything up a level, this is a beautiful wine full of promise, nuance and pleasure. Layered with plum, cassis, black truffle, smoked tea, cocoa bean, slate, charcoal, espresso, pencil lead, fresh mint leaf, juicy and restrained. Harvest September 17 to October 3. An upscore from En Primeur, and the first time I have ever rated it higher than Trotanoy at this stage.Jane Anson26th January 2022

I grossly underrated the 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus blind at rued my initial score as it meliorated in the glass. It has a wonderful nose with blackberry, crushed stone and pressed flowers - the oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and a generous heaping of white pepper; the oak is just a bit too pronounced on the finish, though it assimilates with time in the glass and gains more complexity. Give this 3-4 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023

Composed of 94% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2019 La Fleur-Petrus is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with lifted kirsch, cedar, and black raspberry scents, followed by notions of sandalwood, preserved plums, and chocolate box plus a waft of star anise. The full-bodied palate is jam packed with ripe black fruits, framed by firm tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023
