La Fleur Petrus 2005 is a full-bodied red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most renowned estates in Pomerol and its Grand Vin is without doubt one of the most sought-after from the appellation. The gravel and clay terroir of the plateau of Pomerol provides La Fleur-Pétrus with its seamless combination of silky depth and elegance. Fruit from gravel soils tends to provide the elegance and lifted perfume; fruit from the clay soils the structure and density. "Abundant sweet cherry and truffle, new saddle leather and spice box notes are present in this medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, silky Pomerol. It is less concentrated than some of the big boys such as Gazin, Le Gay, L’Evangile and Certan de May, but it is an elegant, finesse style of wine to drink over the next 10-15 years. The 2005 Lafleur-Pétrus is a bit awkward at first, but then opens nicely with a few hours of air, showing pretty red berry fruit and floral notes, all supported by veins of minerality that give the wine direction and proportion. This stylish Pomerol has plenty to offer in an understated style that is more finesse than power. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later.Antonio Galloni1st April 2021

Mid healthy crimson. Very mineral nose – almost iron filings – though with lots of rich fruit underneath. Very grainy tannins. Extremely embryonic and sinewy. This one is an athlete, probably a marathon runner. (JR)
