Made to the same exacting standards as the Grand Vin and from grapes grown in the same vineyard, La Dame de Montrose is the second wine of Saint-Estèphe Second Growth, Château Montrose. From the 2018 vintage, this is a superb release composed of 52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The subtle nose is dominated by black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant and Morello cherry), together with aromas of figs and dried fruits, underlined by well-integrated oak and delicate spicy notes. Opulent and refined on the palate with silky tannins and a long and powerful finish. A bright future for a great Dame.

The 2018 La Dame de Montrose is such a gorgeous wine. Built on a core of Merlot, La Dame is silky, sensual and impossible to resist. Cedar, new leather, spice and tobacco add lift to essential sweet red berry fruit. La Dame is the sort of wine that can pass unobserved in 2018, but that would be a mistake, as it is truly superb. This is at its most elegant. Antonio Galloni1st March 2021

Structure and Elegance

A veritable jewel of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a history that dates back as far as 1815, this Second Growth property spans 95 ha. The estate produces a marvellous second wine, La Dame de Montrose, as well as a third wine, now known as Tertio de Montrose.

Renowned for the ageability and polish of their wines, the vineyards of Château Montrose are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, all farmed organically. The first wine, Château Montrose is produced as the result of rigorous selection from a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé.
