La Dame de Montrose is the second wine from Château Montrose, a Second Growth estate situated in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The wine is made to the same exacting standards as the Grand Vin and from grapes grown in the same vineyard.

The 2010 vintage is made up of a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot. Reviewed by the critic James Suckling as follows, `Wonderful aromas of blueberries, spices and chocolate with a hazelnut undertone. Creamy texture. Full and very fine with lovely texture and spices and berries. Currants too. Long and gorgeous.`

64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 36% of total production. Very deep crimson. Lovely scented top note and then sumptuously round texture. Fresh and lively with good muscles. Excellent balance and really very flattering without being overripe or sweet. It finishes dry and minerally. Fine skeined. Really a very fine wine indeed – well done! Provided you don’t mind a lack of flesh in the middle... (JR)
Vinous
The 2010 Les Dames de Montrose has a very strange, very mousy nose that obscures all sense of fruit and terroir expression. The palate is simple and weak, the nose so off-putting that I had to wash out my mouth afterwards. This must be an errant bottle given several others that I have tasted in the past. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Neal Martin1st April 2020

Structure and Elegance

A veritable jewel of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a history that dates back as far as 1815, this Second Growth property spans 95 ha. The estate produces a marvellous second wine, La Dame de Montrose, as well as a third wine, now known as Tertio de Montrose.

Renowned for the ageability and polish of their wines, the vineyards of Château Montrose are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, all farmed organically. The first wine, Château Montrose is produced as the result of rigorous selection from a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé.
