La Croix de Beaucaillou is the second wine produced by Château Ducru Beaucaillou, the prestigious Second Growth estate situated in the Saint-Julien appellation. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, matured in 60% new oak for 12 months. Still a very young wine, but already displaying a remarkable black fruited character, with hints of liquorice and tobacco. Best enjoyed from 2028 onwards.

The 2019 La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou is matured for 12 months in 60% new oak. Interestingly, that Earl Grey tincture continues to define this very classically styled wine, enhancing the black fruit. Hints of ash emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and plenty of graphite-infused black fruit that render this quite Pauillac in style. Impressively persistent on the tobacco-tinged finish. Leave this for 4–5 years in bottle just to smooth its edges.Neal Martin1st February 2022
