Château La Conseillante is a family-owned property situated in Pomerol. The estate is made up of a patchwork of sixteen vineyard plots, the oldest of which was planted in 1958. 1998 was the greatest vintage for Merlot-dominated wines since 1990 and the quality of the Saint-Emilions and Pomerols is outstanding.
93 Vinous
The 1998 La Conseillante is a wine that I had not encountered since 2010. This is certainly more vigorous than the previous three vintages: raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, hints of mocha and leather, and a sprig of wild heather in the background all with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with taut tannin and a superb line of acidity that maintains the vigor of this Pomerol. It feels tensile and alive; a blend of red and black fruit mixed with black truffle, clove and sage, leading to a sustained finish that fans out with confidence. At twenty years old the 1998 La Conseillante continues to state its claim as the best wine of that decade. Tasted at La Conseillante vertical at the property. Neal Martin1st May 2018
90 Robert Parker
An evolved dark plum/garnet color is followed by captivating, sexy, raspberry, soy, Asian spice, kirsch liqueur, and toasty vanillin aromas. While not a blockbuster, this opulently-textured, medium-bodied effort is a model of elegance, harmony, finesse, and complexity. This wine`s low acidity as well as wonderfully ripe fruit invite immediate consumption; it should last for 12-15 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Very dark vibrant crimson. Rich, concentrated, pungent – a big step up from run-of-the-mill Pomerol. This has tension and terroir! Good tight bundle of potential. But a slightly false note of almost vanilla-like sweetness on the palate. (JR)

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
