The 2020 Château La Conseillante is a blend composed of 87% Merlot, complemented by 13% Cabernet Franc, aged in 70% new French oak barrels. Undoubtedly on par with the exceptional 2019 vintage, it reveals an incredible nose of pure blue fruits, cassis, violets, spring flowers, and truffle. On the palate, it boasts a full-bodied, seamlessly integrated structure, displaying remarkable elegance and layers of flavours. Perfectly integrated tannins, the vibrant and focused style of the vintage, impeccable balance, and a stunning finish further contribute to its allure. Available here in half-bottles.
98 The Wine Independent
A blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, La Conseillante 2020 has a pH of 3.67 and a deep garnet-purple color. It waltzes out with energetic scents of crushed blueberries, blackberry preserves, and juicy black plums, giving way to nuances of lilacs, redcurrant jelly, iron ore, and cumin seed, with a touch of fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is vibrant and intense, featuring a firm, grainy backbone and bright acidity to counter the muscular black fruits, finishing long and mineral-laced.Lisa Perrotti-Brown12th March 2023

The 2020 La Conseillante has a beautifully composed, detailed bouquet with mineral-infused black fruit and touches of truffle and cedar. It gains intensity in the glass without losing any of its delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins. There's great depth and tension here, gliding toward a persistent finish with the salinity to urge you back for more. I marked this down a little because it lost a bit of energy in the glass when returning 20 minutes later, but it remains a serious Pomerol. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin12th November 2024

Still looks very youthful. Quite a spread of flavours here, rather as I would imagine from a biodynamic estate. Firm, dry, savoury finish after initial opulence. Masses of tannin – far more than in most 2020 right bankers and Graves. Should age well! But too drying to enjoy yet. (JR)

Chateau La Conseillante

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
