Hailing from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux and managed by the Nicolas family since 1871. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc and saw 70% new French oak. Aromatic cassis and violet character on the nose carries through to a beautifully concentrated and full bodied palate. Enjoy after 2028. Offered in marvellous large format.
98 The Wine Independent
Made from 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 La Conseillante is deep garnet-purple in color. It hits the ground running with notes of violets, chocolate-covered cherries, and wild blueberries, leading to hints of crushed rocks, pencil shavings, and dried roses. The full-bodied palate is elegantly crafted, multilayered, and refreshing, featuring bright, energetic fruit and a long minerally finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023

Majoring on Cabernet Franc character at this point, clear spice notes with rosebud, fragrant raspberry leaf, the most gorgeously powerful aromatics. On the palate you get cassis, bilberry, liquorice, dark chocolate shavings, balanced yet concentrated. Love this wine, and it is a brilliant example of the vintage. Harvest September 17 to October 9 (picking just a day at a time as needed, spread out over three weeks). Bottled mid June. 70% new oak, 30% amphoras. 34hl/h yield.Jane Anson8th November 2021

The 2019 La Conseillante was tasted twice, the first coming across just a little top heavy, yet returning after 20 minutes, it is quintessential La Conseillante. Black cherries, blueberry fruit and crushed violets come through with time. The palate is very sweet, plush and extravagant with layers of tasty oak, modern in style to the extent that at the moment this Pomerol is submerged under layers of "baby fat". This will require a lot of time. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
