Château La Conseillante 2012 is a refined and elegant Pomerol red wine from one of the Right Bank’s most consistent estates. Located on the border of Saint-Émilion, this blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is noted for its violet aromatics and silky texture. The 2012 vintage is particularly expressive, featuring flavours of red cherry, sandalwood and fresh tobacco with a cool, fluid finish. It is a confident, structured wine that balances power with a distinctive mineral backbone, representing the pinnacle of Pomerol sophistication.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 La Conseillante opens with pronounced notes of licorice, dried plums, and mince pie, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, cast-iron pan, and underbrush. The full-bodied palate is full-on rich and spice with velety tannins and great length.Lisa Perrotti-Brown16th February 2023

The 2012 La Conseillante takes some time to settle in the glass, gaining harmony after 10 minutes with scents of red cherry, sandalwood, freshly rolled tobacco and clove. This comes across as showier, more extravagant than other 2012 Pomerols. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins, harmonious and poised, spicy and perhaps with a little more edge towards the finish. There is a sense of confidence about this La Conseillante. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Mid crimson suggests this was not fiercely extracted. Nicely balanced nose is gentle and mildly floral. Very attractive. Fully ripe. Rather restrained and with the scent of lilies. Finishes dry but not drying. (JR)

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
