La Conseillante 2010 is a distinguished Pomerol, crafted from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine presents a complex nose featuring cedar, spice and ripe red fruit notes, complemented by hints of violet. On the palate, it exhibits a rich, multi-layered structure, reflecting the intensity of the vintage. The tannins are firm yet refined, characteristic of its terroir. The estate, established in 1730, has remained in the ownership of the Nicolas family for over 140 years, ensuring a constant dedication to tradition and quality.

The 2010 La Conseillante has been spellbinding since I first tasted it from barrel. It has an intense nose with black plum, cedar and graphite. It is vibrant and compelling with scents of camphor intertwined. Wonderful delineation; there are layers of aromatic complexity. The palate is beautifully knit with a touch of black pepper and thyme filtering through the black fruit. It retains so much energy on the finish as it fans out with class and verve. Magnificent. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York. Neal Martin22nd May 2024

This is excellent quality, rich deep plum flavours, spicy, intense, full of character, incense, grilled plum and rosemary, highly charged yet with supple tannins and an edge of sweet red liquorice and creamy caramel. Tasted ex-retail not ex-château.Jane Anson10th October 2024

Sweet toasty oak on the nose. Very sweet and very toasty. Then unexpectedly juicy fruit on the palate. Really juicy. Grippy but smooth tannins. Intense and long. Big and needs time to gain elegance. (JH)

Chateau La Conseillante

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
