Château La Conseillante is a prestigious Bordeaux wine producer that can trace its history back to 1735. The property is situated in the Pomerol appellation, and its vineyard is planted on predominantly clay-based soil. The 1988 vintage is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and has a 12.9% ABV. After ageing for a few decades in bottle, expect some lovely tertiary notes such as cigar box, leather, truffles, cedar and mushrooms.
90 Vinous
The 1988 La Conseillante displays a smudged, rustic bouquet laden with dusky, dark berried fruits, dried blood (rusty iron piping) and a touch of mocha. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry, good structure with the Cabernet Franc defining the crisp finish with hints of allspice and sous-bois. Though not quite as smitten as others who tasted this bottle since it lacked a little gumption, it displays good length and is completely paradigmatic of the vintage. Tasted at a private dinner in London.Neal Martin1st May 2018

Chateau La Conseillante

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the eastern flank of the Pomerol commune, La Conseillante has a long history dating back the early 1700s. The team farms around 13 hectares of vineyards, comprising 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. All grapes are hand harvested, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a keen eye on temperature control to preserve fruit character. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in 90% new oak for around 18 months before being bottled without filtration.

The vineyards of La Conseillante share borders with those of L'Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and Cheval Blanc - illustrious neighbours indeed. Since the 2000 vintage, the wines have been characterised by a fullness and concentration that easily allows for extended cellaring and offers a hedonistic treat in youth.
