Château L’Evangile 2004 is a mature-vintage, full-bodied red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. One of the leading properties on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, Château L’Evangile shares the same winemaking team that produces the First Growth, Château Lafite, due to being owned by the Rothschild family.

“Blackish crimson. Scented. But a bit leathery and rustic on the palate with lots of acidity. A tad old-fashioned. But very honest! Solid verging on stolid. But lovely richness and density.” (Jancis Robinson)

Reserved aromatics at first, slowly uncurling to creme de cassis, orange peel, cherry pit, cassis, incense, intense and smoky, full of character, still very young. Muscular with a ton of life ahead of it, poised and pulled together with creamy tannins and crushed rose petals on the finish.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2010 L’Évangile is a Pomerol that I have rated highly in the past, however this bottle performed poorly. It feels slightly oxidised on the nose and is lacking the freshness of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and well judged acidity. It feels quite ferrous and slightly dry towards the finish, suggesting that this might not last the course. I will defer scoring this for another time. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Neal Martin1st April 2020
