Château l’Évangile is one of the oldest properties in Pomerol with a history stretching back as far as 1741. Its rise to prominence was in large part to the efforts of the Ducasse family, who owned the estate up until 1990 when a majority share was sold to Château Lafite-Rothschild.
1982 is widely regarded as an exceptional vintage for Pomerol and this is a sublime wine approaching the very peak of its powers. Classically full-bodied in style, it is rich, decadent and generous, with delicious notes of black fruits, liquorice, smoke and truffle.

The bottle in the blind flight was corked. Second bottle: Impressively saturated dark red. Exotic, slightly candied aromas of raspberry liqueur, roasted meat, coffee and chocolate. Wonderfully sweet and mouthfilling, but the wine underlying minerality adds to the impression of lift and grip. Spreads out impressively to saturate the palate. A compelling example of this wine, finishing with strong but fine tannins and terrific verve. But the '61 is even richer. Drink now through 2020.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2002
