Kusuda Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2015 is a concentrated dessert wine from Martinborough, New Zealand. This half-bottle showcases intense botrytis complexity, featuring dried apricot and citrus peel, complemented by a marked acidity that balances its considerable sweetness. The vineyard, cultivated in the cool climate of Martinborough, benefits from diurnal temperature variations that enhance ripeness and concentration. Winemaker Hiroyuki Kusuda is known for his rigorous selection process and commitment to expressing terroir, resulting in wines with distinct character and longevity.

The 2015 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is the first botrytis Riesling made by Hiro at Kusuda. On the nose, this leads with beeswax and yuzu curd, white chocolate, nashi pear, layers of jasmine tea and tobacco and mandarin zest. In the mouth, the wine is rich and voluminous but punctuated by piercing acidity that hits the billowing target with a "thwock." The wine is cushioned, voluptuous and expansive and so long. I`ve only tasted it once since commencing this note, and I can still taste it now. This is a superb example of its kind, and like all the wines tasted here today, it`s aging slowly and gracefully with composure. It`s incredibly impressive. You should be fighting your way to find these wines. 173 grams of residual sugar per liter, 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Erin Larkin
