Krug Clos du Mesnil 1979 (Low Fill) is a mature vintage Champagne produced by Champagne Krug in Reims, France. Clos du Mesnil is a rare blanc de blancs produced only in exceptional years from a single 1.84ha plot in the heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Krug embarked on a restoration of this historic plot in 1971 and this 1979 bottling is the inaugural vintage release. Expect a captivating bouquet revealing intricate scents of tangerine, caramel, and dried raisins. Despite its age, the palate maintains a lively character with vibrant acidity, leading to an endlessly lingering finish. A truly a remarkable wine.

The 1979 Krug Clos du Mesnil is one of my all-time favorites. It boasts mind-blowing intensity in its dazzling layers of mineral-infused fruit. At times the 1979 comes across as intensely pointed and focused, but it changes constantly in the glass, showing elements of richness and creaminess as well. There is fabulous depth and purity in the 1979, not to mention an insanely beautiful, palate-staining finish. The 1979 was picked on October 9th, one of the latest harvests on record for the Clos.Antonio Galloni1st July 2011

Elegant Luxury

A Champagne house that needs no introduction. Founded by Johann Krug in Reims in 1843, this celebrated Maison specialises in prestige cuvées, including the multi-vintage flagship Grande Cuvée as well as the glorious Krug Clos d'Ambonnay, made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Another highlight is the highly coveted Clos du Mesnil - a rare Blanc de Blancs produced only in exceptional years from a single, tiny 1.84ha plot of Chardonnay grapes in the heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Krug has been owned by LVMH since 1999.

While Krug's excellent Grande Cuvée and Rosé have historically been released as multi-vintage blends with no indication of year, the team have now started including edition numbers so consumers can easily discover the age and provenance of the base wines used in the blend.
